Recently I had to seperate Sammy and Cecilla because Cecilla couldn't breed no more due to health issues with her and the pups. Today we got him a new mate named Fucia, she is a Siamese gerbil and very pretty and very sweet. I started split caging them a few hours ago, hopefully in about a week they will be together. He is much happier now that he has a new Chicita in the tank.

I have been split caging them now for 3 days and they now seem very curious of each others, so that is a good sign they will get along when I do introduce them. I have a small wired cage inside the 10 gallon tank, and Sammy or Fucia will often will lay ontop of the cage when the other gerbil is in there, and they look at each other alot. I picked up Fucia last night, she is very sweet but shy, she nipped me a bit, but it didn't hurt, and after I talked to her a bit she didn't do that no more. She is just still getting use to her new home and everything. I think once she settles down some more she will be a very nice and sweet gerbil even more.

Well I tried to introduce them today because sometimes in my experiences after 4 days they can get along (for a male/female pair). But Fucia wasn't ready yet and tried to attack Sammy, so I will give it a few more days before I try to introduce them again.

I thought I would make an update on this post. Several months ago while trying to split cage them, Fuscia bit Sammy through the bars of the small cage inside the tank, she bit him around the eye. After this I was not comfortable introducing them, so they were not introduced. After that I tried introducing a few young female gerbils to Fuscia and that also did not work. Although I found a cute female nutmeg gerbil for Sammy, her name is Harmony and they have been breeding for a few months now . As for Fuscia she is still alone, and I also found out it is bad to breed gerbils with a kink in there tail, which she has, so she is still alone for now. However, I spend time with her everyday.
